Identifying wild lizards from captive bred

Does anyone have any ideas how to tell whether an animal is wild caught or captive bred? I have just bought a Uromastyx and I have an awaful feeling he is wild. I fell in love with him the minute I saw him but I prefer to buy captive bred as I don't think it is fair on the wild animal itself to limit it's spaace as we must do. "Dino" has some tail damage and various scars which make me think he's wild. However, he was semi tame when I got him and will now sit on my knee. Any help is greatly appreciated.
