Oh yes, the biggest problem I see with some of the vegans I know is not paying attention to the basic needs of their companion animals. It took me forcing a chick to take her cat to the vet and being told it was blind because it had not ever recieved any taurine for her to finally listen to me. When it comes to snakes, mice isn't always the food of choice. I had 6 snakes, and my 3 burmese were actually bird eaters, not mice/rat eaters. We bought breeder raised pidgeons and chickens and through an occasional 'furry mammal' to ensure they got all the necessary nutrients. The reason we did not catch wild pidgeons for them was simply for health reasons. Wild birds carry some really bad cooties and those cooties can kill captive snakes. It is rarely easy explaining to people what snakes need to eat, and it usually helps to have some laminated fact sheets handy. On a side note, do you have your First Aid Information for the Emergency Responder posted near the cage and your anti-bite kite? You would be amazed how many emergency responders will kill a snake instead of using the drinking alcohol to remove it from an owner after a "stupid feeding accident"
