To the best of my knowledge, Alan, very little to none of any money donated to the HSUS goes to local humane shelters. The Humane Society of The United States has absolutely no direct affiliation with your local humane society nor do the directly support any local humane society other than the one they are rumored to operate somewhere in the D.C. area (I have not been able to confirm/deny this).Take a look at GuideStar.org and run their name through. This organization reported $102,819,945 in assets on their 2001 990 form and $57,177,692 in income. That's a total of $159,997,637. Even after the 6 figure salaries that several of their upper management pull down there's still a LOT of maney left over to help a lot of the actual shelters and humane societies around the country. You'd be surprised how far $10,000 would go in a shelter. When I contacted them regarding some form of grant for the rescue I run I was completely turned down - I was told that the HSUS doesn't make grants.... As near as I can gather they are nothing more than a large lobbyist group that has been infiltrated by PETA over the last few years. If you cross examine news reports and employee rosters some of the names start to become familiar after awhile. Of course, that's just my impression. However, instead of trying to make something like the 2 billion dollar a year reptile industry better, safer and healthier they are attempting to wipe it out completely. And, thanks to much propaganda and fact bending they are beginning to succeed as "exotic animal" bans are popping up in states, cities, and towns across the country which, of course, will do little to no good and actually make the problem worse because reptile keepers will be forced to go underground which, in turn, will alienate them from proper veterinary care and husbandry practices. In that instance, they're making a problem worse instead of better.....
