One bit of advice is to learn everything you can about the attitudes of particular breeds of animals you find. I have been an animal rescue/rehab/rehome volunteer for over 15 years. Most people don't know that javelinas are extremely familial, and when you rescue an injured infant, you try to arrange for a foster area with other rescued javelinas as soon as possible so it can be well-adjusted upon re-entry to the wild. Certain breeds of snake are very viscious whereas others are very docile. Never underestimate your rescues! And get in good with a local vet who specializes in exotics. Network your ideas online with other places like zoos, as no one knows everything, and everyone can teach everyone else. Keep an open mind, and remember that volunteers can be a good thing, so network with your local shelters as well. Make sure your local law enforcement comes out and sees your facility, as you can be a target to animal theft. They will also be instrumental in retrieving wildlife from locals. Good Luck, keep us all posted, you are doing what I dream of doing, but I don't have my PH,D.
