Our sweet, gentle Tercy kitty left us on March 20, so suddenly and painfully that we're still in shock.
He and his sister were adopted at about 12 weeks of age from a local humane society. They both had been found under a woman's window on a very cold night. Other members of the litter had died because of the cold, but these 2 sweeties survived. Thanks to a very dedicated foster mother, they thrived and grew on her hourly bottle feedings.
And how lucky we were to have these 2 precious kitties. They were buddies and could be found with their heads together and paws around each other napping each afternoon.
On March 20, Tercy suddenly developed paralysis in his rear legs, was gasping for breath and screaming in pain. Because of a record snowstorm, we couldn't reach a vet in our town and while it normally would take 20 mins to reach Denver, it took us over 2 hrs. all the while with our beloved kitty in tremendous pain. He was diagnosed with saddle thrombosis, a blood clot was cutting off circulation to his legs and his lungs were filling with fluid. Although there were some state-of-the-art drugs that could be given to him to help dissolve the clot, it would mean time in the hospital, numerous medications, much pain for him and as he was a shy animal not fond of new situations, it just seemed too much to put him through. Also, if he didn't die of the treatment (and over 70% of the cats do), the likelihood was that he would develop another clot within 6 months. So we tearfully said goodbye to our good friend and hope that we did what was best for him. We miss him terribly. He has left such a hole in our hearts. Not a day goes by without a tear. We were so lucky to have him share his life with us. Tercy, we loved you so much we had to let you go, and we know that we'll be together again. You had such a rough start to life and a terrible end but we hope that we gave you much happiness and love in the middle. Bruce & Pat
