Even people who buy their dogs from breeders with contracts rarely get compensated for genetic problems that require costly medical treatments. You can try, but the stores are protected from liability I believe. Unless they gave you something in writing that said this dog was "free of all genetic defects" they really aren't obligated to do anything for you. I bought a ferret from a pet store that after 2 years had multiple genetic problems and numerous costly surgeries. First) the store lied when they sold me the animal saying it was from a vet that breeds ferrets (I found out later it came from a fur farm). Second) When I told them the problems I was having and wanted them to warn the other people who bought ferrets from that litter, they told me they don't even keep records of who buys their animals. I'm really sorry you are having problems. I just don't know what you can do other than make sure everyone you know doesn't buy a pet store dog. Sorry.
