:Don't be ashamed, just know better know next time and spread the word that adopting is a better choice, you can even adopt purebreds and puppies if you find the right rescue!!
:That being said......
:Mr. D is right but let me add a little more. Go into one of your local pet stores and see if you can find some type of certificate on the wall or by the register, almost all states mandate that pet stores need to have their license visable. See if there is any other type of documentation near it. In addition to the license, most states require that the store have its animal return policy posted in a spot easily seen by the customer. This may help you in that you can learn their return policy a bit quicker and easier. Alternatively, call the store and pose as someone interested in purchasing a dog and ask what their return policy is. I can't believe that the store didn't give you a copy with whatever paperwork came with the dog, shame on them!!
:Now, since you didn't offer the info on how long you have had your puppy or the exact nature of the problems, I can only guess and give you some ideas on things you can do. What exactly is wrong with the dog? Are the problems a direct result of poor breeding, inhumane conditions or are they bacterial/viral, etc.? All of these things will come in to play as far as legal issues surrounding the situation. You may even want to consult a local Cruelty Investigator or Humane Officer and tell them the whole store directly to get their take on it.
:In the end, you do always have the choice to return the dog to the store you purchased it from and raise a stink until they take the animal back and refund your money. However, keep in mind that, that particular solution to the problem may not make you feel all that good in the end.
Thank you for the response. Sorry i took so long to get back here. My puppy(Mickey, a beautiful Yellow Labrador Retreiver) was given to me as a gift from my children for Mothers Day..He is now 9 months old..and at around 7 months of age, we noticed that he was limping some and having a hard time walking when he got up from a resting position. We took him to the vet and had xrays taken. Turns out he has elbow dysplasia in both elbows, plus right hip dysplaisa. Besides that, he has an impacted canine tooth, and enamel hypoplasia on two of his teeth. He has had surgery on his elbows two weeks ago, and is recovering nicely. The surgery and xrays have cost $2100 so far and we haven't taken care of the oral situation yet. I wrote a letter to Puppy Palace and asked them how they wanted to handle the situation, and received a reply saying that it is not their policy to pay for vet bills, but that they woulde give me another puppy from different parents, and i could keep the one i have. I wouldn't part with my sweet baby now, and will do what ever it takes to insure him the healthiest, happiest life we can give to him. They did give me papers when i got him. He is not AKC registered, but another registry that has escaped my mind right now. I want to expose this pet shop, and the breeder, and hold someone responsible for this horrible genetic mess that my poor little puppy has to live with. If I can bring a lawsuit against them, i will, but i don't know if i have half a chance. Any more information you can tell me wil be extremely helpful. Thank you so much.
