Unfortunately, you are mistaken. The HSUS is an animal rights organisation as extreme as PETA, only they are perceived as a "moderate" animal welfare group by the majority of people. They argue in public for better welfare, yet behind the scenes they push an animal rights agenda that is extremely powerful.
If this succeeds, it will be a major victory for those people who wish to prevent the world from "using" animals in any way, shape or form for whatever purposes.

If you wish to continue to own companion animals in the US, you need to be fully aware of who your opponents are. The HSUS is one of them, be in no doubt.
