How I sympathize with you, that is the same medication my Tebeau is on. He is a spitz x collie, 13 years old, with arthritis in all but one leg. Actually it may have gone into that last one, but thankfully his back seems OK. I am surprised your vet prescibed this medication first as it's very powerful and I don't know what level of pain your dog was experiencing or what his symptoms were but I would be tempted to ask for something like rimadyl or melixocam first which were really useful with Tebeau when he first started having problems. I also don't think much of your vets negative attitude, mine has already said there are other drygs besides the PLTs so do not give up hope if these stop working. With back problems, I know alot of owners have had great success with accupunture. All depends on the dogs personality but worth a shot. The best thing you can do is love your dog as much as possible and stay positive for them. Good luck.
