Poor old Tebeau! It just seems to be one thing after another doesn't it, Netti? I'm sorry that your beloved furkid is having such a rough time of it in his senior years. Poor little Jazmin too. And you!! Hugs all around!

I know how scary that situation can be, we've had a few tense nights at the ER Vet. I do hope things continue to improve.

I'm glad it's over! I don't think I've ever experienced so many emotions in such a short space of time.

:Monday night Tebeau took a DRAMATIC turn for the worse and we ended up at the emergency vet at 10.30pm. Started at around 9pm, his abdomen was bloated and contracting like he was a bitch giving birth. He was obviously uncomfortable, not able to get up or walk, and having problems breathing so I called the vet who said best to bring him up to the surgery as he couldn't tell what was wrong with him over the phone. It could have been a twisted stomach which no medicine would've helped so he really needed to go up to the hospital in case he needed surgery. Had to wait half an hour for the vet to get into the clinic and it was the longest half hour of my life, I honestly thought this was it, I wouldn't be coming home with Tebeau, but at the same time I was trying to be positive, trying to be practical, trying to get Tebeau as comfortable as possible. More than once I left the room because I didn't want Tebeau to know I was upset, didn't want him to be scared. If the vet had said on Monday night that he could do nothing more for Tebeau, I wouldn't been able to let him go and I never thought I would ever be able to - in that half hour, he just lay on the couch crying and with a sore belly, and I couldn't do anything else for him.

:When we got to the vets, he had a high temperture and his liver was swollen. That just about confirmed what had already been suspected that he had something up with his liver. He was going to be blood tested tomorrow. So he got sent home after a few shots of vitamins, steroids, antibiotics and painkillers. I actually think Tebeau knows what the word antibiotic means now! I really didn't expect him to come home with me, thought at the very least he would need to be taken in for hospital treatment. He settled well and got a good sleep. Next morning, to my utter, utter astonishment he was walking, walking his tail and smiling. Go figure. He was still a bit twitchy and uncomfortable but his blood test yesterday showed no sign of chronic liver problems but it confirms what the vet thought-an acute hepatitis caused by an infection (hence the high temperature on Monday night). Good news is once the infection clears, his liver should heal itself and the function should return to normal. Today his tummy is still a little swollen but his temperture has stayed normal since yesterday morning and he is much more comfortable. Phew.

:That was frightening. It was just awful to see him in so much pain, just glad we could help it. Jazmin was very upset too, she was crying and yelping when I carried him out to the car on Monday. He couldn't walk coz of the pain and I'm sure she knew something wasn't right, but she just didn't know what, didn't understand why I was taking her friend away. Much relief all round today seeing him so much better, but very surprised and delighted all the same!
