I know very little about hunting, so I'm not sure what I can contribute here. I think hunting is ok IF it is to help keep the population down on a species and if the meat will be consumed. I would hope that the hunters would attempt to keep the animal from suffering more than necessary. I know right where I'm from, we have a vast overpopulation of white tailed deer. If it weren't for hunting, these deer would die horrible deaths during the winter from starvation.
That said, I think I would hate to see these dogs put down because they are not suitable pets and their owners could not keep them. Hunting is the UK is a tradition. If they no longer hunted the fox and other animals, would the population get out of control and these creatures end up starving because there isn't enough food for them and farmers shooting them because they are creating a problem with their livestock? I'm sure there are alot of issues here that we know nothing about. Also, this is all these dogs know. This is what they were bred to do. It would be a shame that they could no longer do what they love to do.
