I lost my Savannah Monitor on Dec. 21st when he got out of his cage at my friend's house (she was keeping him for the week). He was found in the neighbor's yard who then called police. The police came and determined that the three foot african lizard was a "texas species" and released him in a near by wilderness park. My friends and family as well as myself searched for him for the past three weeks with no luck. I have to assume that he is either prospering in the environment (which is very unlike his native habitat)and that I will never see him again or that he has died as a result of starvation and cold temperatures. Either way I will not see my Sigmund again. This lack of closure has left me very unsettled and angry at the ignorance of a local police force. I am finding it difficult to move on due to the emotional attatchment I had for this lizard. A great deal of time goes into getting a monitor where he was and anyone who has ever owned one can tell you, they have a definite personality than can never be replaced.

I have since then been offered to care for a baby Ackie monitor and do not know if I have the strength to do it. I feel like I am betraying Sigmund. I don't know what to do, please help.
