::Please don't think of me as weird, but was wondering if there are many people out there that have handicapped pets? If so what types of handicaps?

::I watch Animal Planet all the time and see such remarkable things about animals with handicaps that seem to be making it just fine. I think most of the time the humans have more of a difficult time dealing with it than the animals do.

:What do you think?

:Wow, I made a lot of typos--corrected now. :)
:I didn't know about this forum until now, for some reason. My reply is pretty late!
:I have 2 cats who are handicapped. Gervais, a large LH white cat with blue eyes, is deaf. It doesn't seem to bother him much, although he does tend to be more "hissy" than my other cats, and less accepting of any changes. It affects me more than it does him because I can't talk to him, and I wonder about whether he knows he's loved when he doesn't even know he has a name.
:My other handicapped cat, Andre, was born with deformed front legs. His radius and ulna (is that the right term?) are very short, his elbows are fused at a 90 degree angle and he walks on his forearms. He's also VERY polydactyl, so his huge mitt paws make his forearms look even shorter. He can run--like a kangeroo--very fast, but does not walk well. To sit, he must sit up like a dog bagging (begging). Otherwise he lies down.
:I think you are right about us having a more difficult time with their handicaps than they are (do). Andre can climb the cat tree and the wall shelves in the cat room!
