Hello, I'm new to this board. I have 2 golden retrievers named Goldy and Vince. I have a problem with Vince. Vince had always had a chewing problem and chews everything in his reach. 4 days ago we noticed Vince wasn't acting himself and so we called the vet he said he had a cold and gave him some injections. The next day he wasn't better and we found out he hasn't urinated nor defecated, we gave him laxatives but they didn't really work. Yesterday in the afternoon he fell and couldn't get up and the vet said its because he couldn't really use his back legs properly because of the pressure from his intestines. We gave him more laxatives last night but they didn't work again but then this morning he urinated and the vet sprayed a liquid into his intestines via anus and we managed to get everything out it seems like a rock was blocking the intestines but we're not sure if there is also something else we don't know of so we're still using the laxative but not as much as before. After that Vince still couldn't stand up and the vet said that maybe the pressure has caused the nerves around his hind legs some damage and he said if he doesn't get stronger by tomorrow we might have to put him down and that he had a 95% chance of being paralysed and a 5% to 3% chance of getting better. I was hoping if any of you know any alternatives to putting him down if he doesn't get better by tomorrow because I once saw a picture of a dog with his hind legs on a trolley so I was thinking maybe we can use a small trolley to put his hind legs in and with some physiotherapy we may get him walking again but anything rather than put him down but I will only put him down if its our only option. Thanks a lot for your help.
Faris
