Shar,
Your kitty sounds very sick to me. I too went thru a tough experience with a sick cat. Bunny her name was and she was born sick. She had some kind of auto-immune deficiensy (sp?) that couldn't be helped or cured (I found out after 3 years and spending thousands of $'s). I did her no favors by keeping her alive all that time. She suffered because of me and my stubbornness to accept the facts. My vet was no help, she keep saying she had food allergies (even though she was tested for food allergies and none were found). Anyway, one day I made a promise to Bunny that I would "never" take her to the evil doctor again (because she was always so truamatized by those vet visits). I was true to my words and we didn't go back for quite a long time until the morning I found her with a terrible abcess to her head, above the eye. She had scratched herself sooo much she had given herself an infection and it abcessed. I knew it was time. Even the doctor said, if she could even cure it (Bunny was immune to antibiotics by this time, because of overuse by the vet), there was no guarantee that she wouldn't re-infect herself. I decided then and there....enough! The actual PTS process was very calm and gentle. She purred under my touch till her heart stopped. She looked at me right in the eye till the end and I swear, with love and a "thank you". My only regret was that I had waited so long to releive her suffering.
