When my Tebeau was younger, he was attacked by two huge dogs and had nerve damage to one of his back legs. If I remember correctly it took around 3 or more weeks for him to start using the leg again, so when your vet says wait a few days, I would be more inclined to wait a few weeks, as long as Vince isn't suffering. Does he have enough control to go to the bathroom? You can also help him get around by using a towel round his abdomen and held above his back to support his weight. That might also stimulate him to get his back legs going and will also act as a kind of physiotherapy. If you can get to a canine swimming pool you could try a similar technique in the water to make sure he doesn't sink - the water should take the rest of his weight. What medication has your vet prescribed? Steroids and anti-inflammatories can help with nerve problems.
Definitely look into the use of a wheel chair. They can be expensive, but many a crippled dog has been saved by using one of these. Acupuncture can also help stimulate the nerves when nothing else will but not every dog will take to it. Just depends on the dog.
Best wishes to you both, I hope Vince gets well soon.
