Never apologise for the length of your post. I think you love Sparky very much. You know...he is not really that old. How long ago did Sparky have the surgery. Has he had enough time to heal...and are all the stones gone? Sometimes it takes our older guys alittle longer to get over surgery and to heal the way they are supposed to. Talk to your vet...see what he thinks. You have invested alot of money in your baby boy...and I would hate to think you gave up to soon on him. Only your heart..and the advice your vet can give you will give you the options that are there.
I know how you feel. It breaks my heart to see my old girl CK..but she is still eating...and responding to me. NO..she is not running and playing. She howls all the time when she is awake..she has no control of her bowels...but she still has the will to keep on trying. Soon ..I know that the decision will lie in my hands. I only hope with all my heart and soul..that CK tells me in her own special way...that even though she loves me...she needs to be set free. I have had her for fifteen years...and to say goodbye will hurt me so much. I have to think of her though..as you do your Sparky. By the way..there are diapers for dogs that are incontinent. You might try those until he can gain more control. I have only myself ...so I know it has to be even worse having a baby and a dog that is not well. My prayers are with you. Write me any time you need to talk. Hug your old guy close for me. They just are so special our Senior babies.
