If you say he's doing ok except for the eyes, many snakes can live long healthy lives without being able to see (some people own snakes that were born with no eyes). If you can hold off on the surgery until you've saved up enough money, that's what I'd do. Of course, if the snake is in pain, that's different, but just a loss of sight doesn't necessitate euthanization. Did the vet say what's wrong with his eyes? Retained eyecaps are the only thing I can think of they could fix with surgery. Have you tried posting this on the boas forum?
:I have a Boa Constrictor who I DID take to the vet for his infection in both his eyes. They gave me Baytril but said his prognosis wasn't that great. He's doing ok except for the eyes.....he's blind. I HATE that he's impaired. I don't want to lose him but know I may have to put him down. But how can I even do that when I don't have much money until a couple of weeks? Anyone ever been stuck in this situation? It's horrible. They said they could do surgery but it will be a few hundred dollors. Gosh! Is there Reptile insurance?
