Has it really been a year? I can't believe it. It seems like just a few months ago, at most, that I was asleep and my phone rang, with my ex-husband phoning to tell me to turn on CNN. I sat there watching the news in shock all day and then all week.

In that year a lot has happened in my life - I moved and had a litter of puppies and met someone new. And all of that does seem to have taken up a whole year. But the memory of that morning seems much more recent than that.

I also appreciated the tribute to the rescue dogs. I know some people don't understand why dogs should be honored at the same level as humans, but to me they represent something very special about humans as well as dogs. And if can not only work in partnership but in LOVE, to the death, with members of another species, why can't we believe one day we'll figure out how to live in partnership and love with other members of our own species?
