You should NEVER keep a wild caught anything as a pet. Aside from the fact that it is almost certainly carrying a wide variety of parasites and bacteria, you don't know what diseases it may be carrying. The best thing that you can do is return the snake to the wild and go purchase a captive bred snake to enjoy.

Aside from that, based on the fact that you are a teacher it appauls me that you would teach your students such poor behavior both from a safety and humane aspect.

:I recently caught a small garter snake while mowing my yard. I took it to school for my classroom to see. I wanted to keep him as a class pet, but I can't get him to eat. I've put small crickets in his cage and small earthworms, but anything I put in he seems to be scared of it. He runs from them. If you can help me email me at ukfanman@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance.
