:::We have recently aquired a dachshund as a pet. Eight months old, healthy and full of beans. What we didn't count on was such a strong body odour.
:::He has a beautiful shiney coat, so I don't really want to start bathing him, or do anything that might result in drying out of the coat. Currently I'm using a pet wipe that has aloe vera on it - but the effect lasts about 5 minutes!
:::Can anyone advise us on a safe and effective way to keep down the odour? Much appreciated.

::Congrats on your new puppy...even thou the dog's coat is shiny it is ok to give your puppy a bath once a month. To help with not drying out the coat, I would suggest getting a moisturizing dog shampoo or one that is mild. The odor is caused by dirt and decaying skin flakes...so a bath once in a while won't hurt them.

:You say the odour is caused by dirt and skin flakes, but he is brushed thoroughly daily - and I use the wet wipes a couple of times a day so there can't be much dirt on him. I am talking a seriously doggie odour here. BO is the term for it!

I would then suggest a trip to the vets would be the best advice..even thou you are wiping and brushing, flakes of skin can get under the hairs and decay there. But if you think it is a serious problem then I would take the pup to the vet. Odors can be caused by ears, mouth and skin. Good Luck
