:My recommendation would be to cut him back to 2 meals a day - one measured cup each - morning and evening. See how he does. I was feeding my dogs 3x a day, but cut back to 2 and they are fine. You can always mix in some peas, beans or carrots to fill him up without filling him out.

Even at his age? Shouldn't I still be feeding the same total amount, just in 2 meals instead of one? I am basically using the package guidelines in regard to the amount of food per day, maybe slightly less to account for a smalkl amount of treats I give. It says to give 4 2/3 cups to 5(?) per day. This amount seems to be right for him. 2 cups is less than half of what he is getting now.
