Probation for labrador killer

This one provoked a visceral reaction from me. Three young males tied up and beat a labrador, then killed him with fireworks. Charged with a felony as an adult, one of them gets probation because it is his first offense. Legal action against the two juveniles involved is pending. The adult has had prior charges of domestic abuse and driving while drunk. If he successfully completes his probation, he can posses animals again. Isn't it time that we think about a guardian ad litem for the abused animals in these court cases, someone to speak for them?
