Here's the scenario. We have 3 dogs. They were in our back yard surrounded by a 6 ft. stockade wood fence. The gate has a quick latch lock. I had just rann to the pet store to get puppy formula and a bottle for a 3 week old pup I'm fostering that someone JUST left here with us.
Anyway. as I'm driving down my street I see my husband walking up the street with our neighbors 9 yr old son. I just knew something was up.. It turns out the kid was at our gate and the dogs were going crazy at the gate. The gate gives and all 3 dogs run out my husband runs over as well as another neighbor and rescue the boy as the dogs had already jumped him and bitten him and were doing the death circle around him.
We feel absolutely horrible about this. It's totally our fault for having a weak gate latch with all these dogs. The boy must have been scared to death. I mean can you imagine how scary this must have been??? However- he was standing at our gate and that's what drove them wild. This has never happened before, we are responsible dog owners, the dogs have never gotten out before and no one has ever stood at our gate before and not backed off when they heard them barking.
We know we are responsible and feel quite guilty about it.. THe boy is in the emergency room right now. We saw hew suffered a bite/scratch on his upper arm about 7 inches long and very swollen. God.. just to see that boys face. We are so thankful he didn't get really hurt and someone was home to immediately get the dogs in and bring the boy home...
Please let us know what the laws are on this and what we can do to prevent losing our butts in a lawsuit... Rose and Rick
