My husband and I were outside our local shelter Sunday afternoon, our local dog park is located there, when we saw a man being abusive to his dog. We went over to him and as it turned out he was turning him into the shelter but had gone in the wrong door and was on his way to the other side of the building. When we saw him, he was teaching the dog not to pull on the leash by grabbing onto the dogs ear untill he screams and cowers. Being polite we got as much information as we could from him and we took the dog home. It took all the self control we had not to go off on this sorry excuse for a human being, but all I wanted to do was get the dog from him. The dog is a purbread blood hound who's name is Bufford. I do know what I'm getting into as I already have one. It turned out Bufford came from the same breader as mine did and they have the same father. Bufford is at least 20lbs under weight, infested with fleas, obviously been hit ALOT, and the biggest sweetheart we have ever met. By Tuesday our vet neutered him, cleared up his fleas and gave him his annual shots and an atibiotic shot for a sore he had chewed in himself. He has been dewormed and is heartworm negative. I have since spoken to his breader and she is very familiar with Bufford. He will be 2 in January and we are his seventh home that we know of. The original owner has always been in the picture but but has shipped Bufford from home to home including the breader as he could'nt look after him. The last home Bufford was in left him living on a deck full of fesis, unfed and uncared for. My main consern right now is that I don't know how to tell him that he is here to stay and that we will allways come back. He gets very upset when my husband or I leave the house and I think he's affraid we are not coming back. I appreciate any help I can get on making his life alot better than it has been so far.
